WHAT IS MINI MOON?
A
Mini-Moon, also known as a Temporary Satellite or Quasi-Satellite, is a small,
natural object that temporarily orbits the Earth.
Earth
has a new temporary mini moon! Asteroid 2024 PT5, about the size of a 10
wheeler truck, has been captured by Earth's gravity and will orbit our planet
for the next two months
DISCOVERY-
This
"mini-moon" was discovered in August by s at Spain's Complutense
University. It's length is around 33
feet (10 meters) wide and will orbit Earth for about 57 days.
But,
this mini-moon is so small that one can't see it with the simple eye . You need a good quality
telescope to observe it.
WHY IT IS
CALLED ''MOON''?
The term "mini-moon" is
used to describe small celestial bodies that become temporarily captured by
Earth's gravity and orbit our planet for a short period. While it might seem
like a poetic name, there's no specific scientific reason for calling it a
"moon." It's more of a convenient and descriptive term to distinguish
it from Earth's primary moon.
Here's why it's called a
"mini-moon":
·
Orbital Behavior: Like our Moon,
these objects orbit Earth, albeit for a much shorter duration.
·
Gravitational Influence: They are influenced
by Earth's gravity, similar to how our Moon is.
·
Distinctive Appearance: While much
smaller, they can be observed as small celestial bodies in the night sky, much
like our Moon.
However, it's important to remember
that these mini-moons are not permanent satellites like our Moon. They
eventually escape Earth's gravitational pull and return to their original
orbits around the Sun.
THIS IS
ASTEROID OR SATELLITE?
This is a asteroid but in this case
it is moving round the earth like a satellite so this is called mini-moon.
After this two months, it will o far but again in 2029, it will come closer to
earth
